A soliloquy is defined as an act of speaking one's thoughts aloud when by oneself or regardless of any hearers, especially by a character in a play.
I am speaking my thoughts about Shetland through this piece.  I fell in love with Shetland through the excellent BBC series and the beautiful and haunting mysteries of Ann Cleeves.  The series is based on her eight books.
Actually, the love affair began earlier.  I love Scotland and have been aware of Shetland through many photos I have seen over the years.  I love solitude, wind, fog, and don't mind rain and snow.  I am not a sun person.  The BBC series cemented my love of the place and I hope to convince Ann to head to Shetland for a week or so next summer or fall.  She loves long days and archeology.  Shetland has many digs--some from settlements 4-5 thousand years ago.  Plus, it is close to Norway (Bergen is closer to Shetland then Aberdeen!) , and we could hop a plane from Lerwick to Bergen, visit her elkhound friends in Norway, and come back to the States with an elkie from Norway.  And maybe I can convince Ann to rent a summer place in Lerwick or on one of the loches.
